Native tray with modern vibe

I love collecting native baskets and hand woven products. I feel like they give my multi-themed room warmth and a touch of something Filipino. What's more appealing are the textures it display that makes you want to put your hands on and feel the materials.

Some native products that I have such as baskets, trays, bags, mats which can be locally sourced here in Antique are cheap but of good and export-quality kind. Buying  from OTOP (one town one product)  centers  support local artisans too, so it's equally worth having.

Here's a simple and quick diy project I did to spruce up some vibes due to boredom during my flu confinement at home.

Materials:
Nito tray bought for only 200php
Brush
Poster or acrylic paint
Topcoat spray paint

The material is NITO

Compared to other local baskets, this particular material is quite expensive because this requires a much intricate weaving process. 200php is cheap but if compared to the banig tray which is only 50-120-it's pricey because of the craftmanship.

See what color can do to a boring brown tray. I specially love the wave details which the color gave some justice. It looks like it's got some modern twist to its native feel.

Bags by Rubbertree: Checkbook case

I love leather and I love handmade and when they go together something cool is really gonna come out. I'm talking about my new checkbook case which is made of leather and guess what, handmade! My sisters and I share the same admiration for things as mentioned and we patronize locally handcrafted products too so when my younger sister tagged us in Instagram with a picture of a yummy leather bag- we fell in love.

Bags by Rubbertree is designed and made by Rubbertree Design Studio owned by Ruben and Trina Flores. "With backgrounds in industrial design and studio arts,
their design method is grounded on a shared aesthetic
and a dedication to materials, technique & process.
All items are hand-cut and hand-stitched by the couple."
Website here.

This is the design that my sister ordered but in a different color, when I got to try it, t'was so soft and the stitches look sturdy and of course I love the smell!

So cool right? My younger sister got us checkbook cases and she got herself a very nice bag (how unfair is that?! haha!) and a wallet for my youngest brother. She got me the green one obviously and I absolutely love it!
